About

NeoPixel rings, matrices, and jewels use the same WS2812B pixel technology as the strip, but in compact pre-arranged form factors. The 24-LED ring is popular for clock faces and radial progress bars; the 8×8 matrix enables simple text scrolling and icon display; jewels provide a dense 7-pixel cluster.

Specifications
Supply voltage5 V
Data rate800 kHz
Colour depth24-bit RGB
Ring sizes12, 16, 24, 60 LEDs
Matrix sizes8×8, 4×8
Jewel7 LEDs (1 centre + 6 ring)
ProtocolSingle-wire NZR (WS2812B)
How it works
Identical to the strip: each pixel is wired in series, capturing its own 24-bit packet and forwarding the rest. The ring/matrix PCB simply arranges the pixels in a geometric pattern; wiring and protocol are identical to a linear strip.
Use cases
  • Radial progress bars and clock faces (ring)
  • Simple pixel art and icon display (matrix)
  • Compact indicator clusters (jewel)
  • Volume knob / level indicators
Limitations Fixed pixel count per module (unlike strips). High current in dense configurations. Same 5V / timing constraints as WS2812B strip.
